After four years selling locally in Alaska, I can't believe it's only 10 days until I launch my online store! I've put so much research in, and along the way have picked up some great tips and tricks for online ordering.
Speaking of which, let's talk necklace sizing. Did you know there are 7+ names for the various necklace lengths? Did you also know the same length falls differently on each person according to their body composition...sometimes significantly?
So what's a woman to do when trying to order the perfect necklace? And I haven't forgotten you fantastic men looking to buy your lady that special piece that's just her style. How do you know you are making the right choice?
I've put together this short video to demonstrate necklace lengths and have included some tips. This is adapted from a Facebook Live video, so please excuse the mediocre quality.
Here is a summary of my go-to recommendations when ordering a necklace online:
1. Measure a favorite necklace
You don't have to know the name of the length you are shopping for, but you do need to know a measurement or range. The simplest way to do this is to measure a necklace that you know works. Measure the cord or chain full length, then remember to compensate for pendant length. Most online stores will give dimensions. If you need clarification, be sure to ask.
2. Add an extension
A 1"-3" extension can do wonders for your confidence, particularly when ordering a gift. I offer a 2" Sterling Silver extension as an add-on option with necklace purchases. Some jewelry designers work it into the design. You can also purchase inexpensive clip-on extenders at bead shops and craft stores.
3. Just ask
If you love a necklace, but not the length, go ahead and contact the business owner or customer service. There will likely be an extra charge, but most customers won't turn away business over a chain length. I know I wouldn't.
With only 10 days left before my online store launches, I want you to be in on a secret. I am offering a VIP Pre-sale! If you haven't already, sign up for my email list to get the inside scoop!
